Alec Soth in conversation with Vince Aletti: "I love Szarkowki's idea of Mirrors and Windows. He, former Curator of MOMA, had this idea to divide photographers into two types: Window Photographers, those that are really out looking at the world and Mirror Photographers, those that look inward. I've often thought about that and I've realized that I'm a Mirror Photographer that is out in the world. I've also thought about the fact that when you photograph a Window, depending on when you photograph it, it becomes a mirror, so I'm using a Window as a Mirror. How's that for psychological?!"
